This York Slope Swivel Chair was the second custom piece we built for the same illustrator in Brooklyn.
She ordered it alongside the 0102 Sofa, for her front reading nook. She’d settled on the York silhouette from Pottery Barn — she liked the sloped arms, floor-length skirt, and smooth 360° swivel. But the stock linen version felt limp. It wrinkled after a day of sitting, the skirt bunched up when she turned, and it still cost $2,399.
She wanted something sharper, warmer, and better at holding its shape. We made two key changes:
- Upholstery upgraded from standard performance linen to heavyweight brushed wool — soft, matte, and rich with natural texture.
- Fabric weight bumped up on purpose, to hold a clean, structured line. The skirt stays crisp through every swivel, no bunching, no sagging.
We kept the exact arm slope, tailored skirt length, and quiet swivel mechanism she liked. Built on our standard solid hardwood base.
Final price: $2,088. Less than the original brand’s linen version, in a better, heavier fabric.
It’s since become our most popular piece to pair with the 0102 Sofa. We added this exact configuration to our standard line.

Materials We Never Use
- No particleboard or MDF in primary load-bearing frame members
- No green, insufficiently dried or structurally cracked hardwood
- No staples or adhesive-only joints as primary structural joinery
- No low-gauge untreated springs, webbing-only suspension or plastic support substituted for the approved no-sag steel sinuous spring system
- No tilt, rocking or uncontrolled-return mechanism substituted for the specified 360-degree swivel-only base
- No under-rated, unsealed or non-serviceable swivel bearing assembly
- No reclaimed, shredded or undocumented low-resilience foam
- No unapproved fabric substitution, mixed dye lots or color outside the approved strike-off tolerance
- No intentionally added PFAS treatment in the performance finish
- No intentionally added chemical flame retardants unless required by destination regulation and disclosed before approval
